What is Lean On Me AZ?

Lean On Me AZ, funded by Casey Family Programs, is a project to raise awareness about the factors that protect families from overwhelming stress, and provide tips, tools, and messages to help community members strengthen families in everyday ways.

The goal of the project is to empower communities to prevent child maltreatment. Child maltreatment is prevented when parents and caregivers get the support they need when they need it. This starts by creating a culture of parent support: acknowledging that parenting is challenging, normalizing that we all need help sometimes, looking for and pointing out parent strengths, encouraging help-seeking, connecting families to what’s available to help them, and building trust with families. When we do this, we are preventing family overwhelm, and by doing so, we are preventing child maltreatment.

What is the Lean On Me AZ Training of Trainers (TOT)?

Through the Lean On Me AZ Training of Trainers, participants will learn to deliver a one-hour training on Lean On Me AZ concepts. They will also learn how to facilitate a Lean On Me AZ Community Forums, in which groups are brought together to discuss ways to strengthen and support families in their community. The TOT will happen on Friday, July 23 from 9:00am – 2:00pm over the Zoom virtual platform. Participants will have a one-hour break during the TOT for lunch.

What are the requirements for participation in the TOT?

Participants in the TOT must be experienced, passionate public speakers who have a solid understanding of the Strengthening Families™ Protective Factors Framework. Prior to the TOT, they must read the Lean On Me AZ Call to Action and Toolkit and commit to the following:

  • Giving at least one presentation on Lean On Me AZ before December 2021, and sharing training data with Prevent Child Abuse Arizona
  • (optional) Co-facilitating a Lean On Me AZ Community Forum

More information and support on the above commitments will be provided for trainers during and after the training.
